Default Introducing Self-Modding

I was asked to post this to let everyone know.

You now have even more control over the threads you start. As Mac said earlier, you can Delete, Move, Close and Open your threads, by using the flyout menu titled Thread Tools at the top of a thread.

But now you can also soft-delete posts in your threads. For those of you who've never modded on VB, you'll notice a check-box in the upper-right corner of the post. If you check that box, (and any other posts you'd like to delete) and scroll to the bottom where you'll find a Moderation Pull-down. Where you can choose Delete, or Undelete posts.

Soft Delete means you're really only hiding the post, so that if there's some sort of dispute the mods can still view the post in question.

I've asked that maybe a quick button, like the edit button, be added for easier deleting, but this may take awhile. (I'd also ask for a merge posts option)

Being able to change your thread titles is still being worked on, black-listing may be possible as an extension of the current modding plug-in, and I found a plug-in possible white listing that I've passed on to the forum elves. (or are they gremlins?)

I assumed the gremlins destroy the parts of the forums we didn't want - like the post count and thread rates, whereas the elves fixed in or put in the parts missing we wanted - like the whitelisting.

Personally, thanks for the reminder Tana.
I just had a question. I can edit other peoples posts in my thread - and I imagine that unless they come by and reread their posts, or someone else has and told them, they wouldn't know.

Instead of deleting a post I didn't want, let's say I'm somehow offended by someone saying my work sucks... isntead of deleting I could actually edit. I could make someone say how great my work was, and how they admired me so much, etc... and be really fake, or anything more realistc. Other than a "Last edited by ___: such-and-such time ago at this o'clock XM." note at the bottom of the post, is there any other check or balance to that?

EDIT: besides, I've edited and seen posts edited that don't even have the edit note. So it might not even show up as being edited. It's like those really horrible guest books where people would delete and alter people telling them they stole their work and posted it as their own - stop!
I dunno why I thought that, but meh.

The edit note is timed. After a short period of time (I think it's a minute), any edits will have the 'edited by' tag.

Erk,
If you meant we shouldn't be allowed to: as in we should remove the feature I'm in full agreement.

But if you meant, we shouldn't be able to now, we can...

I hope ccoa doesn't mind - I added an edit to her post in bold (just because she was the very first reply) to show that, yes user's can edit other user's posts.

In regards to the post edit,
I edited that first post of mine in this thread before ccoa replied. I hit refresh and her reply wasn't there. It has yet to show a "edit by___" note, however the post I just edited in the link above does indeed carry it, and did so as soon as it was posted.

I don't like the idea of others being able to edit your posts. Maybe be able to delete your post if you don't like what they said in the thread but I feel really uncomfortable if someone can change what I said even if they have the edited by tag at the bottom.

Same here.
Honestly, most people don't even bother to look at an "edited by" tag. There have been a few occasions on several sites I was confused about someone saying something, to later find it was edited by a mod for any number of reasons.

If we can change other peoples posts, what's the point of even leaving any feedback at all. I know it'll catch on, people will become aware of it - it's on the same level of deleting, but at least this time we don't have the risk of accidentally causing identity confusion.

Well I can't edit other people's posts no more - or at least ccoa's, so it looked like those gremlins fixed it. Those guys do a hell of a quick job on things!
