First off SHOULD we have a mascot?
Second off, this is what I think ti should be.
I want us to have an anime style Sea Sponge (sponge bob does not count) and his friend, the street urchin sea urchin Xd thats just me. anyone who draws a sketch will make me happy.

ANYTHING but Dragon Kid :P

I think it should be ...something interesting. I dunno about a sponge, but I honestly have nothing better :P

Suggestion - barefoot artist girl with her hair up dressed in overalls, sponge painting out our logo? Something along those lines?

For extra cuteness, have some paint smeared on her face.

I'm going with Erk

A sponge shaped like a brain
or a brain shaped like a sponge

=P

How about NOT having a mascot. Hell, the site is 2 fucking days old, how about investing some more time in building it up before thinking of a mascot?

Well, it's worth thinking of something to replace the running nose that's currently parading on the banner. :P

I think that some kind of sea sponge could work, as long as it bears no resemblance to spongebob at all.

I think I'll go with TCoFA on this one. The site's a bit too young(yes, I'm comparing it to a living being) to actually make it's own mascot just yet.

But, as far as the Mascot goes, I think the girl with the overalls painting a sponge would be a nifty idea. But I've always liked the running nose. :P

you make a valid point. however, it takes a while to do everything. This is something that amuses people a bit. Its not halting any of the real work.

Well this time around I'm definitely going to try to submit ideas...

If you wanted to go with a sea/ocean theme, there are some really strange creatures living in the depths. Some are even cute.

What's wrong with the nose? D:

DJ Jack

I don't think that's it's nose...

...Jack, coming from a grand high pervert, this probably doesn't mean much, but... that's sick.

Erk

I don't think we need a mascott. A logo is an ok idea, but there's no rush. I do want to get rid of mr. nose though... I wanna replace him with a brain made of sponge, as was said earlier. Doesn't anyone but me think that would be the awesomest thing ever?

Atemu
4th November, 2007, 12:55 AM
Aw... but Nosey's awesome. He has like... no point, nothing related to the site at all. He is simply a nose with legs; a mighty sniffer smelling out the cause of reality. He is righteous, I tell you. D:

HawkZombie
4th November, 2007, 12:59 AM
I hate the nose. But not as much as I hate the idea of a Brainsponge :P

Just make a logo with the name of the site in spongy letters.

Skie

Skie: <Anaryu> How about a guy on fire? <-- and holding a sponge!

Do this. You know you want to.

FoxDemonSoavi

I like that. a logo made out of sea sponges. maybe use photo shop and use parts of real sponges for the letters

Oh, even better. She's doing sponge painting. She's using a sponge to generate meaningful art! I see it working.

I don't really think it's too early, and anything would be better than the nose. It would be nice to have something that the new influx of members could familiarize themselves with. I'm all for a girl sponge painting though. :3

What I'm trying to say is that this site will not be what it is now, or what it is planned to be, in 2 weeks. That's unrealistic, sure it may be fun, but next month the mascot might stand for something completely different.

Give things a solid form before naming them.

Draken
4th November, 2007, 09:29 AM
Yes, I totally agree with Autumn.
For now, it's best to wait and see how the forum forms before delving into the whole mascot thing.

Kettlehead

On a sea theme, what about a squid? It can be holding things related to the different things on the forum, like a pen, a paintbrush, etc...

Or a lobster. I really like lobsters.

Goofed about a gremlin idea so, why not post my thought on it here.

We've joked around about gremlins and elves.
Why not a gremlin and elf alternating mascot? Gremlin in aviator goggled aviation helmet thingies. He could be eating something very technical looking - a chip board or something, because eating random php code would just look silly, unless it was a piece of paper with tags written on it and the like. If we changed seasonal on the upcoming holiday season he could be opening a present, with half the wrapping paper in his li'l mouth and flying an airplane in one hand.

We could alternate that randomly with an elf. With a pair of big clunky work boots and a work belt on with lots of big heavy looking tools. She could be fixing a crack in that big ol' blue up there. Putting a nail in or something. Holiday season, she could be lighting a menorah. Think about it, Christian gremlins and Jewish elves. That's spontaneous all it's own.

On April Fools you have the gremlin fixing things while the elf shatters something. New Years? The elf holding back the gremlin's aviator goggles as he bows to the porcelain god. Halloween? The gremlin dressed up as ol' nosey up there, and the elf as the gremlin. Saint Valentine's Day could see the Elf with loads of pink letters with heart shapes on it, while the gremlin eats from a box of chocolate with a "to forum elf" written on it. Etc. Loads of bad ideas just waitin' to be had.

EDIT: Didn't Mac use that as his avatar once? Ol' nosey I mean.

yeah he did, it's one of his old creations.. I think it's supposed to be a funny because it's a "running nose" lol

I would just like a picture of sixtyandaquarter giving an overly enthusiastic thumbs up for the logo... nuff said :D

Sure, don't credit me at all for the initial idea! :P

In all seriousness, though, I think that sounds really cute. ^_^

currently its floating around that we should have a forum gremlin or a forum elf as our mascot. why not both?
tough I think a fairy would be better than an elf.

Mr_Smit
9th November, 2007, 05:34 PM
Make something like a gremlin who is eating something -maybe the postcount- and the elve is trying to get him away from that?

Everyone has ignored ccoa's idea...personally I think hers is the best.

(Girl sponge painting bare feet with paint on her face)

*orgasms*

HawkZombie

Yeah, but that only works if the ONLY thing she's wearing is a pair of overalls. *WINK WINK, NUDGE NUDGE*

I tried the girl a few times. I've been having trouble with the pose, though. We need something that fits into a small enough area, yet shows enough of the mascot to convey the image clearly.

I'll work on it tonight and see if I can find something that works. ;)

$t3v0 that sponge is the awesome. I freakin love the expression. It's so off the wall too which I think is good for something "spontaneous" I want the $t3v0 sponge!

Painter girl!

Not so happy with font, but I have a limited selection of fonts here at work, and no way to get more.

It took me a few moments to realize the perspective of the painter girl, because with the coverals you can't really tell depth. Not bad, but I dunno....her face looks a little asmytrical as well.

I'm kinda inclined to go for Stevo's Sponge...only because it looks INSANE

Lets just remove the white t-shirt and shes perfect.

Jokes. I mean. Uhh yeah.

I was kind of hoping she wouldn't look so 'super-heroish'.

She'd be cuter if she was sitting cross-legged sponge painting.

Goin' off of ccoa's original idea I did this in Paint real quick:

(I really like the sponge painting idea)

I honestly prefer the cuter version Slasha just showed over the more realistic somewhat home improvement home depot home construction looking version of ccoas to be fair.
Though, no offense, the quality of ccoa's is far higher. The cutesy versions a little too line rule.

Though when I saw the BnW version those weren't the colors that popped in my head. I don't like the colors. If Slasha doesn't mind I'd like to take a stab at recoloring it, even if it's just for practice.

J.D. Slasha
25th November, 2007, 12:00 AM
Yeah man, go for it lol, just a sudden burst of holy-crap-I-need-to-try-out the mascot. ccoa had an awesome idea in my opinion. I don't like the colors too much either, I'd wanna' see ur colors six.

Cup o' Wisps
25th November, 2007, 12:34 AM
Oy, this'll be fun...
To the left is Slasha's original to the right is my version, which is just a palette swap:

I think mine looks a little more playful and maybe too random in scheme.

Then for whatever reason I had your version in the layer under mine and when I went to hue, and such like that - these came out...
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/spongen2.pnghttp://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/spongen3.pnghttp://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/spongen4.pnghttp://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g147/sixtyandaquarter/spongen5.pngIf you look in the spoiler I'm sure you'll see a mistake in the socks and maybe one or two other places. Blah. I hadn't noticed until I uploaded em.
I really like the 1st and last of the spoilered versions for some reason.

I wanna come up with my own version of the painter girl now... weird...
