Life Flashes By is about an "author with moderate success" named Charlotte Barclay, who gets into a car accident and finds herself in front of a strange fairy in a strange forest. The fairy, Trevin, tells her that he is here to act as her tourguide through various scenes of Charlotte's life before she either moves on with her life, or dies and goes to the afterlife.
As far as gameplay goes, there's not much of it. In fact a more accurate description for Life Flashes By would be an interactive novel that allows you to skip around and choose the dialogue. Some may not find that very interesting, but the strength of this game was how interesting Charlotte Barclay's life was.
The dialogue was very witty (she is a very snarky person and the banter between Charlotte and Trevin was entertaining). I found myself at times frustrated with Charlotte's inability to see how she comes across to people, and at times I felt she was totally right on the money. It made me think about choices I've made in my life and go 'what if?' Also as someone who wants to do something creative with my life, I could certainly relate.
The graphics were nice and had their own sort of charm, it's been a while since I've played a game where everyone wasn't modeled after an Armani Exchange catalog. I also found myself getting a kick out of the music, written by Squinky & the Squinkettes which seemed to fit each scene perfectly.
I'd love to write more about the plot, but that would be giving the whole game away. But here is a preview:
