This is a rather new function that I've never seen before. D: It is rather nice, but I was wondering if anyone else feels that it might be better if it were to be changed to apply to first post only.
It's probably just me though, since I'm an all-out mass editor. ._.

Edits bump threads? I had no idea...
But it would probably be nice to only (if possible) apply to the first post. Gets rid of the need for 'Bumped for new info, first post' posts

Interesting tho, on the front page it doesn't show the "bumped" post as being the newest thread. It only bumps it in the forum view.
Maybe in addition to having the Bump only affect first posts, an option for "This is only a minor edit" So that if you're just correcting a spelling error it doesn't bump it.

Ah, and even better if you can choose whether an edit will bump or not for any post! Although that can be abused. D: But then again, on this forum, you are able to delete your own post at will and repost, so that'd be the same thing. Hopefully things won't get too messy as more people get here.

I think it's a bad idea because I tend to self-edit 13123234234 times after I write something. Sometimes I just have to get what I want said and then I have to make it make sense.
But yeah, I'm pretty sure people would be absolutely pissed if their threads got knocked down because I messed up on a tag, or I forgot that I wanted to include a picture.

I think it's a good idea to keep. Sometimes you want to add something important to a thread, but it's been a while since you posted in it and the people you want to see it have already read your post. Your choices are to double post (oh, how many of these have I merged together?) or to edit and hope someone sees it. This eliminates that unfairness.

I noticed that when I edited my music thread, but I thought it was just bumped for me. It's quite the nifty feature. I agree, it should only apply to the first post.

Perhaps provide a check box when editing a post that says "bump?" That way you have the choice... and default is not checked.

I'd also say don't let it bump unless the thread owner edits a post.... but limiting to first post only is the best option.

This only applies to the first post btw, i installed it so that the person who owns the first page can edit and bump it, instead of having a billion posts in one thread saying bump.....and if someone abuses it then we can tell by edit history. ;-)

I was gonna clean up a thread I have after giving some thank-you comments, but I accidentally clicked on a tab with this thread instead :D
I don't like the idea.
It sounds like a substitute for the "double post update" which isn't a great idea either.
I think the dreaded double posting method is better. Like an art thread, you post new piece - you want people to see it. You were the last one to post. I'd double post. I'd than, after getting some feedback if any, I'd (like I'm about to) self moderate my thread and clean it up. Get rid of double posts and my "updated with ______" posts (or at least cut them down).
If I went to a thread, read first unread and there wasn't an "updated" post - chances are I'm not going to hit the practice of going to an earlier post to check if anything is new. Especially if it's something I had no comments for in the first place, that I might have now.

Oh, that clears things up a bit. Yet still, even on my own threads I sometimes can't help but edit my posts (even out of boredom) for extremely small details, probably a similar case to Lene. Is it possible to have the option of edits bumping or not, when you are the thread holder? I'm guessing that's a pain to do though, so if not, I'll just try to break my habit.

The funny thing is I just edited what happened to be the last post in my thread in that there art section, that being my own obviously. It does bump it. I just laugh cause Lunarea's Pixel Art thread is still shown as the last post on the main page.
I'm not complaining mind you. If you click on the art section my thread is higher up than his. That thread is just listed on the main because it has the last new post - not the last bump. Is that a glitch or is that the intention?
Like I said I'm not complaining. I'm really just curious. Even if the edit bump doesn't make my thread last listed post in the main page, I'm still going to edit if I'm the last poster. So it's not like I'm looking to go all bump crazy or nothin'.
