View Full Version : Should we have an RP forum?

While I realise that roleplaying was never a big hit over at .org, I believe it might be worth it to have one over here. After all, we do have some accomplished writers around whose imagination(s?) could make any roleplaying experience memorable.

So, yeah, in short, should we have a roleplaying games forum? I don't really think they'd fit in "babbles".

I think in a way, it might be more active compared to what happened at .org due to the small size of the place. It may have a reverse effect; since it's more personal, more might consider it fun and worthwhile.

I'm usually too self-conscious to RP though, heh. D: I'll just watch from inside the bushes.

I loved the one that (Lene? ccoa? One of them... :x) Started around the time I first joined .org. Sadly with everyone leaving left and right, it ended really quick. :<

I wouldn't play... but that's mostly cause I don't like forum based rps. I'm all for real-time table-top, but I loose interest if I have to wait for people to reply.

If it is a writing RP you are working on, why not just post one in the Writing section? No need for an entire forum dedicated to RPs when people can just start them in the writing seciton.

Wouldn't the writing forums get crowded with the RPS, and with multiple threads devoted to a single RP?

I don't think there would be all that many RPs. There were a grand total of 5 pages of RP's (viewing at the max) in the RP forum, and only 2 or 3 pages were active threads.

And I think someone mentioned getting a system with child-threads to threads. I don't think it would be all that difficult to manage a single RP within a single thread, since topic starters have full access in their topics.

spam but SS, $60,000 a year for that? LOL that is actually pretty good.

I voted yes, as I like the idea, but it would depend entirely on how it's done. If it takes the form of short stories woven together to make one large story (i.e. posts being a page or so in length), I might participate. If it's just 1-5 line posts that are essentially the conversations between 2 people, I'm not a fan.

It would also depend on the topic and the genre, as well as how much creative freedom we could have while still being a part of the same world.

all we need is to get child thread system working eventually. more forums aren't needed.

spam, but Lene, I am a desperate man. Money is not important when everything in that is pretty close to true. Granted, I have no way to pay that, but I will find a way!

I don't think we need a subforum. Like sovay said, child threads will do that better: each rp can have its own subthreads for stuff like character sheets. With whitelisting, the GM can designate subthreads to specific parts of the adventure and whitelist them off to the people who should know what is happening, allowing a lot of fun tools for rping and keeping secrets secret.

I haven't ever been a big fan of forum rp, but I am starting to think I will set up a game here once the whitelist/blacklist/child thread combo is set up.

I was not aware of the existence, or the possibility of childthread...ing? It could be an excellent alternative solution.

While I understand the desire to keep the forums simple with as little subforums as possible, remember that it's like having only 3 drawers for all your clothes: after a while, it's difficult to find the shirt you want in the "short sleeve/long sleeve/vest" drawer.

But anyhow, let's wait until something is needed to create it.
