Ah, the Enix days.

I remember playing this as a kid and managed to dig it up and play it again.

Apparently it is an installment after Soul Blazer, but it never seemed very popular. All I have to say is that this game is phenomenal.

The gameplay is very fun; comparable to the old Zelda games. Some of the puzzles are a little obscure like most early RPG's but it's not that hard to figure out. The storyline is what you would expect from an old SNES RPG but the soundtrack is very good.

Has anyone else played it? It deserves much more attention than it has received.

Ahh... I rented this from a Blockbuster when I was a kid, and I got stuck really early on. There was probably some door that blended into the background that I missed or something, because it was literally within the first 10 minutes of the game, haha... the worst part was that I had the game for the whole week, but I couldn't even play after that! Now I want to go back and play again... I'm sure it was some stupid oversight.

Same here! I rented it way back when and it was too hard so I couldn't finish it before it was due to be taken back.

Preferably rent it or if all else fails use a ROM or something because it's definitely worth it.

I sucked at this game as a kid, but my dad had completed and he had saved at a point I could go to any world or time period, whatever it was, and play all I wanted. I loved the game. I really want to play it again.

http://alisachristopher.deviantart.com/art/Shadow-IoGaia-57569194 testament to how much I liked the game. I was able to pass this game when Final Fantasies still eluded me.

Speaking of Enix games, has anyone ever played "E.V.O. The Search for Eden"? I loved this game... I swear that must have been how Will Wright got his idea for Spore. And to be honest, I liked E.V.O. a lot more than Spore. Something about just swimming around and upgrading your body parts was relaxing (I liked the music, too). Oh, and the sea cucumbers gossiped, haha. Another Enix game I liked was Soul Blazer (though I didn't play that one until recently on the Wii's virtual console).

Very nice, Tana!
It does seem like a dumbed down version of Final Fantasy, but I do like the idea of leveling up by killing all the enemies on the map. It gives you more of a sense of completion once you max everything out. :p

Shigi, I'm afraid I've never played E.V.O., but I sure have played spore. Great game. :)
And I have read that soul blazer is connected to illusions of gaia storyline-wise... but I've never actually played soul blazer.

Another game I liked from Enix was Terranigma, one of the best games I've ever played. ^^

Wow, it's Raziel! You made the Chrono Trigger menu I'm using as a placeholder right now, you rock! :) A few people recommended that I check out Terranigma, I'm hoping that it will come to virtual console so I can play it on the Wii... otherwise I'll have to track down the ROM. What is it like?

The only thing I remember about that game was a pig, and I seem to recall something bad happened to it.

Thanks shigi. ^^
Terranigma is a pretty good game. At the beginnin of the game you'll start in crysta, a village in the underworld. By accident you destroy everything that used to be in the overworld. Now you have to help the world to grow again to what it was. You pretty much accomplish everything by running through dungeons, speaking with people, traveling and much more.

shigi, ive played EVO one of my fave snes games to date. it was awesome how you could save your evolution paths and change them around

also played terranigma, found that fun as well its a zelda type of action/rpg game, at least thats what it seemed like to me, then again i didnt get very far.

i also found final fantasy mystic quest really fun, sure it was simplisitic, but it was enjoyable, and i didnt really look at it from the viewpoint of a final fantasy game so that helped alot when playing.

Wasn't Enix the makers of Mischief Makers for the N64? If they did, that chalks up another awesome game made by this company. idk about their SNES RPGs, haven't played them myself. But Valkyrie Profile for the PS1 was another favorite of mine.

Heh, I loved that game. The creative boss fights were actually the funnest I've had screaming at a TV screen as a kid. :robot:

According to Rye and her red gems I'd assume Enix did make that game as well, since you collect red gems in Illusions of Gaia.

nice, i remember playing FF:MQ, after having played FF1, FF4, and the GB FF games, and i went "wtf is this shit". i beat it in 5 hours and was greatly saddened by how bad it was.

everyone is forgetting the biggest Enix series: Dragon Quest. Still the best jRPG series by far.

Urrrgh. Illusion of Gaia. I much preferred it's "sequel" Terranigma.

IoG was weird. The battles were okay, though attacks were a little limited (one direction and style of attack per form? :< ) but the boss battles... gah. I stopped at the first boss because I just couldn't beat it. When I heard that there were a finite number of healing items I decided that I would never be able to complete the thing legitimately and went back to Terranigma.

Terranigma had different style attacks based on button presses, and you got to explore a world map that was based on our own. That was enough to me to make it better.

I beat IoG waaaay back when I rented it, it was one of the few games I saw through to the end, so it was definitely good enough. I miss this almost as much as I miss Secret of Evermore. :)

Probably, but we're both entitled to our own opinions. He can think mine doesn't matter and I can continue thinking Dragon Quest is boring and generic :wut:

aren't you 17, what are you doing in a thread about SNES games that you weren't even old enough to read when they came out.

i don't care what you think about dragon quest, but the games are better than illusion of gaia to say the least.

I never said I played Illusion of Gaia (Indeed I haven't. btw I'm 18, not 17). But I figured the conversation shifted to Enix games in general, so I figured I'd offer my biased opinion. Also, I believe I've told you before I had a SNES as my first system with my first game being FF3 (FF6 technically).

Illusion of Gaia was a very well developed game. Very interesting mechanics, challenging, and not to mention fun. I loved spinning that little rod for no good reason, but becoming the knight and beating the shit out of thing was the real thrill.
