We were talking in IRC about international music swapping some back and forth. What are some international music videos from your homeland or any place that you affiliate with that you'd like to share with the forum? Link them for us!

I always complain to my parents that they never listen to any Nigerian ballads. So my father found several for me. Here is one:

Asa - Eye Adaba (The Dove) (http://www.imeem.com/people/UaP8i1J/music/tqR_8oRr/asa_eye_adaba/)

It is very Western in style (I listened to Asa's entire album and while it was okay, I felt it was slightly overambitious and it felt a bit pretentious), but hey it was a new thing for me. :8P:

I will go post a more traditional Yoruba ballad when I get home.

Ethnix- Machar Ani Babait (Tomorrow I'll be home.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVv-aj3_RaM

Look at the audience. It's full of the 18 and 19 year old IDF soldiers. Kids engulfed in war.

Lene, this one's for you. It's Naomi Shemer singing Yerushalayim Shel Zahav (jerusalem of gold). Forgive the lips not matching the song. It's incredibly old. Surprised youtube has it.

You mentioned Ofra Haza in my blog. She has more of an Arabic twist to her singing. It was redone by her here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8Co7IzOyhw.

My favourites so far were the Dutch one and Asa. Israeli ones were too depressing for my liking, sorry Lyric :(

I am not fond of Indian subcontinental music in general, but a few gems pop up now and then.

The most famous singer in Pakistan at this moment is probably Ali Zafar. I hate the guy's guts but he's made this one really good song which is actually on my iPod.
Unfortunately I couldn't find a good Youtube vid for the song in mind so you will have to do with this this live video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hM9bPUFqY_s). The good song is the latter half of the video. (Note: REALLY quiet, you will need to turn up volume by a shedload)

I hate Indian music with a passion (thanks Bollywood) but a long time ago a guy called Shankar Mahadevan made a song that would put even the most experienced rapper to shame; he sings for two minutes without a single break, and the song is actually damn good.
You'll need to turn up your volume for this as well. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA-e0mw1hsM&feature=related]v=P47Tv3cANmc&feature=related)

EDIT: More Dutch songs oh no

YM, go through my blog and check out some of those. They're not at all depressing. Hallelujah is one of the most uplifting songs I've ever heard.

By the way, vale, I dedicate this to you:

Lene, here's another one by Chitman you might like. They won second place in the preliminaries to eurovision and made a song about how now they have to stay in Israel. What's funny is that this song made a ton more money than the one that did go to Eurovision. lol It became the #1 in Israel. It's a pretty funny song. At the end, it wishes the song that won good luck in Eurovision.

Lyric- I think you are right;I like the older stuff better! I'm listening to "Yerushalayim Shel Zahav" (Naomi's version) right now and I love it. I'm probably going to end up listening to it a few more times and hunting for lyrics.

Ethnix is okay for me though. The video was bittersweet in a way.

Im Nin'Alu is the song that got me into Ofra Haza

Autumn- Marco Borsato sounds so much like...I can't think of the name off the top of my head, but damn it is so familiar. Guy can really sing though!

That's mizrachi style. It's arabic/eastern influence in the music. I'm not a big fan, but my husband is because that's his background.

Ok, here is some from my little bit of culture:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp-is6S_b_g

I don't have much of a culture to call from, besides Americana.

BTW that first link is a total joke about me being white. Here is a real bit of Americana..

Here is something my father used to play on his records. Good memories of living in a small farm house, with no TV, and only books, radio, and dad's records to entertain us. On the same lines, John Denver can be thrown in there. I listen to all types of music, but Bluegrass, older country and low-rent rock, and other things that my parents love all hold a special place in my heart.

I know they are kinda campy, and it isn't popular music but.. I'm a white boy. Sue me.

Two songs from a Nigerian artist that I really like

First one is a blend from modern and traditional styles and it works so well.

Ekundayo by Ty Bello feat. Olufunmi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgJ3pk_tQkA)

Second one is more modern but it's a great song and the video isn't too bad either. I think this was a nominee for one of those MTV Africa awards. I don't know if it won though...
